West has found himself increasingly targeted by snappers since he began dating reality TV star Kim Kardashian last year, and a house-hunting mission in Beverly Hills last week ended in an angry outburst from West after he bumped his head by walking into a street sign as he attempted to shield his face from the cameras.
He took aim at the photographers again on Wednesday during a performance at the Roseland Ballroom, where he hit the stage as part of the Adult Swim cable channel’s upfront presentation to celebrate its new shows.
During a break in his set, he insisted he was not a proper celebrity and had no interest in attracting more media attention.
He raged, “One thing about me, I’m the worst kinda… celebrity because all I do is make real music. All I do is sit in the studio and make real, real s—. And that’s it… That’s motherf— it. That’s motherf— it. So I don’t want no people runnin’ up on me with cameras, trying to like sell pictures and s— to magazines, asking me dumb a— questions, throwin’ me off my focus and s—. Harrasin’ you all motherf—’ day. I ain’t no motherf—’ celebrity.”
West then addressed his upcoming appearance on “Saturday Night Live” this weekend and ruled out any possibility of participating in funny skits with guest host Ben Affleck, as is often customary for the show’s musical guests.
He continued, “It’s so funny. Somebody asked me, ‘When you do SNL, are you going to do a skit about the paparazzi and s—. And like humanise yourself?’ I ain’t here to apologise to no motherf—, man. It ain’t about me humanising myself. At what point did I become un-human where I have to turn myself back?
“I ain’t no motherf— celebrity… I’m trying to make some music that inspires people to be the best that they can be. And I don’t want nobody else to ask anything of me! Don’t ask nothing else of me.
“Motherf— chasin you down, about to make you crash and s—. And all they want is for a n— to laugh and s—. Hell nah, I ain’t doin no motherf— SNL skits. This is my g— life. This ain’t no motherf—.”
